Fixing WorkSmart Camera Access Issues After Google Meet Calls

Overview

Some users have reported that WorkSmart stops capturing webcam screenshots after finishing a Google Meet call. The camera works normally at the start of the day but fails once a meeting ends. Restarting WorkSmart does not fix the issue, and users have had to disable/enable their camera in Device Manager or reboot the entire system—both impractical workarounds when multiple meetings are scheduled throughout the day.

This issue occurs because Google Meet locks the camera resource, preventing WorkSmart from reconnecting to it once the call ends. The error logs typically include messages such as:

“The data specified for the media type is invalid, inconsistent, or not supported by this object.”

Fortunately, there is a simple solution.

Solution: Enable Camera Sharing Between Applications

Windows allows you to configure your camera so that multiple apps can use it at the same time. Enabling this setting ensures that WorkSmart continues to capture screenshots even while (or after) using Google Meet.

Steps to Fix:

  1. Open Windows Settings

    • Press Win + I or click Start > Settings.

  2. Navigate to Camera Settings

    • Go to Bluetooth & devices > Cameras.

    • Select your active webcam from the list.

  3. Enable Advanced Camera Options

    • Scroll down to Advanced camera settings.

    • Toggle on Allow multiple apps to use the camera at the same time.

  4. Apply and Confirm

    • Click Apply and restart WorkSmart.

    • Test by joining and exiting a Google Meet call—WorkSmart should now continue capturing webcam screenshots without interruption.
