Overview
Paychex partners have a WorkSmart time tracking restriction which is related to the weekly hour limit specified in their assignments (usually 40 hours). This means that partners won't be able to track time past the weekly hour limit if there is not an Overtime request approved.
To assist both Paychex partners and their direct managers, there is a set of WorkSmart color status changes and email notifications which are explained in this article.
Prerequisites
- Paychex partner paid on an hourly basis using WorkSmart to track time

The process description for both Paychex partners and managers:
- At 38 worked hours, Worksmart will send a pop-up and an email notification to the partner indicating they are approaching their weekly hour limit. WorkSmart status will turn yellow and partners will still be able to track time.
- At 39 worked hours, Worksmart will send a pop-up and an email notification to the partner indicating they are approaching their weekly hour limit. WorkSmart status will remain yellow and partners will still be able to track time.
- At 40 worked hours, Worksmart will send a pop-up and an email notification to the partner indicating they have worked up to their weekly hour limit. WorkSmart status will turn red and partners won't be able to continue tracking time.
Also, an email notification is sent to the manager indicating that their direct report has reached their weekly limit. - If the partner still needs to continue tracking time, he will need to submit an Overtime request.
- If approved by the manager, an email notification will be sent to the partner indicating they can resume their tracking with WorkSmart. WorkSmart status will turn yellow, and they will be able to track time until the requested overtime.
- If rejected by the manager, an email notification will be sent to the partner indicating that their request was denied. WorkSmart status will remain red, and they will not be able to track time until the next work week.
