Checking/Adjusting WorkSmart Permissions for macOS Sonoma

Overview

Once you have WorkSmart installed and running on macOS Sonoma or later, you may experience issues with your timecards such as missing images, application names or website URLs due to missing macOS permissions

If you are using macOS Monterey or Ventura, please see the macOS Permissions Preventing WorkSmart From Tracking Time article instead.

Solution

To check or adjust the WorkSmart permissions, go to Apple > System Settings > Privacy & Security. Ensure each of the permissions listed below are set as required. You may need to restart WorkSmart after making a change before the new permission takes effect.

If you've just installed the tracker, you may not see WorkSmart listed under some or all of these options. If this is the case, you will need to run the tracker for a few minutes and allow macOS to prompt you for each of the permissions.

Camera

This permission should be granted if webcamshots are enabled for your assignment

Accessibility

This permission is required for the tracker to function

Screen & System Audio Recording

This permission should be granted if screenshots are enabled for your assignment

Automation

This permission is required for the tracker to function. At a minimum, System Events should be checked for WorkSmart. Any browsers you use should also be checked to allow WorkSmart to get the window title of that browser.

You may also wish to grant permission to show notifications under System Settings > Notifications > WorkSmart. This allows WorkSmart to alert you if webcamshots fail etc.

If you continue to face any issues granting permission to WorkSmart, you may need to reset your macOS permissions. You can do this using the below steps:
Note: this process will reset permissions for all applications on your machine

  1. Open a terminal window.
  2. Execute the command: sudo tccutil reset All
  3. Type your password if prompted (note that the characters will not show as you type the password)
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Open WorkSmart and starting tracking time.
  6. Let WorkSmart run for a few minutes and grant permissions as prompted
  7. After a few minutes check your Privacy & Security settings as noted above
